This pot is proving harder than I thought On my easel now

I am sitting and looking up at my set up.
I think some more tweaking is definitely coming soon, so this ends day 2.

Copper Pot on my easel now...

Tonight, after a long nap, I attempted my block in of my first copper pot.  I blocked it in , in color for a change. As you can see in my Paris painting I used Wash of burnt sienna which I rubbed out to a light stain on the canvas.  With my color block in I was going for a simple but more colorful start.  As I build up my color I will be defining the shapes until I am satisfied with the overall composition.

The art day started with a sketching session at Northlight's Studio with a model.  Thank you Jerell for the opportunity to join in! See you tomorrow. Enjoy.

Paris Fun - day 2

Day 2 of "Paris Fun"
My goal in this painting is to be lose and joyful just like my main figure. Who is really taking in the joy of her first time in Paris.   I want to achieve the impression of the day and the joy felt at finally arriving.  Since this is such an icon and well known subject I am taking a somewhat different approach to laying it in by waiting to let this stage dry before I finish up impasto.
So the struggle continues.

Paris

On my easel now.  I am working from a photo my daughter gave me of my granddaughter having fun in Paris.  I start my paintings upside down in order to avoid thinking of the actual object or person but rather, the shapes and tones.  This subject is VERY difficult !  I hardly do architectural subjects.  I am certain this will not be one of my quick paints.  Canvas is 24x36.In Oils.

Rainy Day Revisited

Rainy Day Revisited

I have played with this composition several times.  At my first go around I liked it lot but I just "had" to mess around a bit more and ended up not liking very much at all.  After taking a class a few months ago with Ann Feldman I decided that since I didn't like what I had done I would take yet another crack at it, using that fearlessness Ann instilled in all of us that day.  I hope you enjoy it.

Tonight we had a very informative demo by artist Ann Feldman.  One of the important things I took away from this excellent presentation and demonstration of charcoal drawing is the importance of measuring and VALUES.  Thank you Ann for a great demo!

Since I had been planning on doing the Daily Paintworks challenge I tried applying what I learned from Ann tonight.  I did let it get away from me though, because I jumped right into color.

Many of you know that I am truly addicted to Starbucks naturally I had a Starbucks bag handy.

My next attempt at the bag challenge will be to follow Ann's value study lesson and just do the three values of the bag before I get into color.  Below is my first go at the paper sack challenge.
