I am doing more practice on head tilt and profiles. Obviously, this is a tilt although slight. I blocked this in today and ran into some issues with mixing my darks. I used viridian, alizerian crimson, ultra marine blue for my dark. It became very slippery and difficult to use. All it did was slide around and the brush left scratches down to the primed canvas. Usually, my viridian would at least stain the canvas, not so today. I think I will wait a day or two and get some feedback on what could be causing this. Any ideas?

3 hours with a live model. This was really fun! Intimidating but Fun! I wanted to work on it further at my studio however, my hands were shaking so much the photo I took of the model did not come out (except as a blurr) I did not realize how nervous I must have been, painting with the group at live model night. I was with some very impressive artists!

Why Paint When I have a Camera?

Hi, this is Peggy.

<-------No, not the guy over there! <-----

I am an artist, I am learning. I find painting what I see or imagine a challenge & at the same time I find it relaxing. Crazy? It could be all the lead in the paint. But, for now, I have both my ears. Hours can fly by without once thinking about politics for instance. ;> At the moment I am very interested in painting portraits. I need more subjects/models! I have not gotten up the nerve to just ask someone on the street if I can take their photo to use to paint them. I need the practice!

Here is what I have done so far. I did this last week while he was watching the Bears football game with eyes fixed on the game. This took me a few hours and I have never enjoyed football more than that day!

As you can see I need to get better at taking photos of my art the glare is too much! And that is WHY I paint instead of using a camera.11/7/07

I painted Santa(Uncle Bill McDonald) as he was on his way out my door. Since this is a busy month for him I had to paint FAST !!! Thanks Santa for letting me paint your portrait during your busy time of year! Oh! don't worry about the raindeer tracks they cleaned up just fine, cannot even tell they were here. :-)

When first starting out, the canvas was covered in burnt umbre, then I rubbed out the light areas with a rag. Next week, I will start painting with color much like the February portrait.

Milvi Wheeler Demo

My cell phone has a camera feature and I took these photos tonight of Milvi's demo. However, the light was a bit bright and they do not do the painting justice. I hope Thia's pictures come out better. As soon as she sends me them I will post them asap. What an interesting night. Milvi was unable to finish this painting in one shot (she paints wet into wet) however we all got a good feeling for how this technique can be handled by a master painter. She starts at the top and works her way down the canvas. This way if she cannot complete a painting in one sitting she has a clear/clean area to begin with the next day, therefore, always keeping her working area wet. I expected much bigger globs of paint on her palette but low and behold she uses very little paint. I was surprized by how far that paint went! THANKS MILVI !! We look forward to seeing the completed painting.
